Dr Catherine Hart
Clinical Psychologist, Intensively Trained DBT Therapist & APS Supervisor of The Year (2024)
Catherine is passionate about supporting provisional psychologists, interns, registrars, and early career clinicians to develop confidence, reflective capacity, and evidence-based therapeutic skills within supportive learning environments. Catherine has been an intensively trained DBT therapist since 2010 and has extensive experience developing and facilitating DBT programs across a wide variety of clinical settings in both the UK and Australia. Her work has included DBT implementation within forensic services, inpatient settings, learning disability services, adolescent and adult mental health programs, community services, and private practice. Over the past 15+ years, Catherine has worked with individuals experiencing significant emotional dysregulation, complex trauma, personality difficulties, self-harm, suicidality, and chronic mental health challenges, while also supporting multidisciplinary teams and clinicians to implement DBT-informed approaches effectively and ethically. Alongside her clinical work, Catherine is deeply passionate about helping other psychologists feel more confident and capable in delivering effective, compassionate, and evidence-based DBT interventions. Her teaching style focuses on making DBT approachable, practical, and clinically relevant — particularly for early career clinicians who may feel overwhelmed by the complexity of the model. In recognition of her contribution to supervision and clinician development, Catherine was awarded the APS Supervisor of the Year Award in 2024. She is particularly passionate about creating reflective, collaborative spaces where clinicians can openly discuss challenges, therapeutic relationships, risk, boundaries, and the realities of clinical practice while continuing to grow their skills and confidence.
